Taking a Stand: Why Choosing God’s Truth Over The World Matters

It is human nature to yearn for freedom, for a chance to belong, and to pave our own path. We constantly struggle to feel like we are not being weighed down by the social constructs that the world has placed us under — by a society in which we are told to conform.

However, worldly glory will only take us so far. All of us at some point have experienced what it feels like to give into worldly pressure. We think that by giving in, somehow we are free. It’s the idea that, by conforming, we are somehow rebellious.

But, how does the Messiah view freedom?

John 8:31 Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (NRSV)

When we choose to walk by faith through diving into the Word of God and following in his Son’s footsteps, we gain the ability to be free from the chains that hold us down. Our life becomes focused on understanding God on a more intimate level every day. Therefore, we experience a joy that only He can bring us.

In choosing a life where God is our ultimate priority, we also get to take part in relationships with like-minded believers that are willing to stand with us in faith. People who are willing to stand confidently and not let their past trials define them, because they know that God has restored them. In these relationships we get a taste of the kingdom life that is God’s will for us. This hope in the age to come gives us the energy to keep fighting every day. It gives us the power to wake up willing to make choices for God’s glory.

But how do we gain this life? Even more importantly, how do we disciple others to walk in this life with us? At Atlanta Bible College, we not only facilitate your own walk with God, we also equip you with the tools to share that light with the world you live in.

So, you are deciding what choices to make, as you do every day. Consider choosing to stand for God’s truth over all else. Because, believing in the God who created us, and his human Son who saved us, gives us access to an unimaginable freedom with a hope in a kingdom that will endure forever.
