The objective of the Bible and Theology program is to provide a biblical foundation for teaching, preaching, and ministry.

Example of Courses

  • B112 Old Testament Doctrine and Survey II—3 hours. A reading survey of the books of poetry and the prophets. Historical setting, introduction, outline of content, exploration of important themes and doctrines. Practice in application of a variety of methods and tools of Bible study.
  • M242 Gospel of John—2 hours. This unique Gospel is examined in light of its cultural milieu. We also consider the errors which John combated in writing it. Its unusual language requires an intensive consideration of its theology of Jesus as Son of God.
  • B343 Pauline Epistles—2 hours. A survey study of the life and letters of Paul. The letters are set against events in the life and ministry of Paul. Exegesis and exposition lead to a discussion of theological and life implications..
  • B441 Synoptic Gospels—2 hours. A critical examination of the first three Gospels in light of the Synoptic problem and in terms of their individual literary designs. A comparative study of the sections with attention to life setting and central meaning. Exegesis and exposition lead to a discussion of theological and life implications.

Ministry

The objective of the Ministry program is to provide a practical foundation for those who wish to pursue ministry.

Example of Courses

  • M109 Introduction to Ministry/Leadership—3 hours. John Maxwell says, “Everything rises and falls on leadership!” This class will introduce the student to what Maxwell calls the “irrefutable laws of leadership.” The student will be challenged to grow as a leader and challenged to understand that ministry should take place in whatever vocation they may choose to follow.
  • M244 Introduction to Missions—3 hours. The principles of evangelism and their application to the local church. Also, a study of how missions can be popularized and understood. Methods of involving a congregation so that missions will become meaningful and an ongoing activity in the life and ministry of the church.
  • M360 Homiletics—3 hours. Fundamentals of communication through preaching. The course includes basic theology of communicating the gospel, principles of sermon structure, preaching in the context of Christian worship, and laboratory experience.

General Education

 

Our General Education program provides students with the foundation they will need to build into a Bible and Theology or Ministry program.

Example of Courses

  • G181 Personal Finance—3 hours. This course will center on the basic concepts of personal financial planning. Specifics of budgeting, financing a home, investments, spending priorities, and coordination of financial planning will be presented.
  • G271 Church History I—3 hours. A survey of the history of the Christian church in the west—its important individuals, movements, events, and trends—from the apostolic age to the present.
  • G484 Basic Helping Skills—3 hours. The purpose is to train students in basic listening, attending and interviewing skills with an emphasis on strategies which are researched and known to be the most helpful techniques. (This course may be used to meet Ministry course requirements.

Remote Learning

All of our classes can be taken in-person or remotely. Many of our classes have a Moodle component in which a student will use an online learning management system to track with the class. Some classes utilize Dropbox video of the instruction to engage with the coursework to track with the class. Both of these formats provide the flexibility to tend to the coursework anytime during the week that works for the student. Still other classes utilize Zoom for all students enrolled. No matter the format, all classes follow our semester schedule of August-December and January-May.
